Dr. Lisa Bucci

Hurricane Specialist and Research Scientist, NOAA’s National Hurricane Center

Dr. Lisa Bucci is a hurricane specialist at NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL.  Prior to joining NHC in 2022, she was a hurricane research scientist at NOAA’s Hurricane Research Division where her work took her on the hurricane hunter aircraft into notable storms such as Sandy (2012), Matthew (2016), and Irma (2017). Dr Bucci has extensive experience with research flight planning, observational data collection, quality control, and analysis, and led the hurricane field program in 2020.  Her research focused on the evaluation of new observing systems and their impact on numerical model analyses and forecasts of tropical cyclones.  She holds a Bachelor’s in Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, an MS from Florida State University, and a Ph.D. in meteorology from the University of Miami.
