Anita Gajdecki

Founder and Director of the American Meteorological Society’s speaker series “Eye Towards the Sky"

Anita Gajdecki is the Founder and Director of the American Meteorological Society’s speaker series “Eye Towards the Sky”, showcasing the latest research and technologies related to weather and climate. These events have been held annually since 2019 and are designed to be open, accessible and welcoming to the general public.

She holds a Master’s degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Massachusetts and a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from Cranfield School of Management in the UK. She graduated from the University of Manchester in the UK with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Astrophysics.

Anita is a former management consultant with many years of experience managing and implementing large and small-scale software systems and technology programs, primarily in the finance sector in the UK and Europe. Bilingual in Polish, she was part of the software team that set up the first Warsaw Stock Exchange during Poland’s transition to a market economy in the 1990’s.

Having moved to NYC from the UK, she left the private sector and started volunteering at the Hayden Planetarium in New York City, writing and recording monthly “Sky at Night’ astronomy reports for the general public under the guidance of Dr Neil DeGrasse Tyson. It was at the Planetarium, inspired by new discoveries and research in astronomy, where she first discovered her passion for effective and informative communication of science related to the sky and beyond. Since then it has become her mission to work in the non-profit sector and act as a conduit for bringing the latest research, science and technologies to the general public for the benefit of society at large.

In her spare time, Anita is a non-executive board member across a number of academic institutions and non-profit organizations, and enjoys staying fit by playing tennis and padel.
